About Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine
Although mother deer are wary of human smells, they still want their babies back. If you already handled the fawn, quickly return the fawn to the exact spot where you found them and leave the area; the mother deer will not show herself until you are gone. If the fawn is lying down calmly and quietly, their mother is nearby and they are OK. A doe only visits and nurses their fawn a few times a day to avoid attracting predators.

This can include bottle-feeding tiny kittens every few hours overnight, a task she does on her own time without compensation. While the kittens live at the hospital, Kerry makes sure they get the socialization they need in addition to getting them seen by a doctor and vaccinated. Adopting a kitten that is already social, litter trained and vaccinated is so great for the adoptive family! Then she tackles the most difficult task of all, sorting through applications, making phone calls, and setting up visits to ensure that the adoptive family is the perfect forever home for the kitten. In the rare event the home does not work out, she takes the cat back and finds it yet another home. In addition to her tasks at work she takes tremendous care of her three cats, her recently adopted shelter dog, her beta fish and her husband.
Focus of practice
My interests are soil transmitted parasites, parasites of wildlife, visceral larva migrans, host response to soil transmitted pathogens and detection of soil transmitted parasites. More broadly, my research spans a wide range of issues that affect both animals and humans, from avian flu virus to Crohn’s disease. My goal is to understand how bacteria, parasites and viruses interact with their environment and move between hosts. This work ultimately advances the health of companion animals, wildlife and people. The Cornell Riney Canine Health Center is a network of faculty and staff within the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine working together to promote the health of dogs around the world.
Dr. Mike Adkesson – Mike Adkesson, DVM, DACZM, DECZM, has dedicated his veterinary career to the conservation of wildlife and nature. He passionately believes modern zoos and aquariums play a pivotal role in educating and inspiring people to protect vanishing species and habitats around the globe. The AMH assay is also used to test for cryptorchidism and testicular remnants. Anti-Müllerian hormone is commonly used in human medicine to estimate the size of the ovarian reserve of oocytes and to titrate the dose of gonadotropins as part ovarian stimulation protocols in the context of assisted reproduction technologies . As the uses of ARTs in dogs advance, AMH testing has the potential to serve the same roles in dogs as it does in women. The Goodman Lab leverages genomic technology to study canine infectious diseases in a One Health framework.

My primary research interests are examining chemotherapy drug resistance in cancer patients and hematopoietic malignancies. After receiving my D.V.M. from Cornell in 1998, I stayed on to complete residencies in small animal internal medicine and medical oncology before transitioning to my current position. In the last years, curricula in both human and veterinary medicine have been adapted with the aim of incorporating competency-based teaching. Furthermore, the importance of institutionalized systematic teacher feedback has been recognized and tools such as clinical encounter cards are being implemented in clinical veterinary education. Equine medicine – Some veterinarians are specialists in equine medicine. Horses are different in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and husbandry to other domestic species.
Ancient Indian sage and veterinary physician Shalihotra (mythological estimate c. 2350 BCE), the son of a sage, Hayagosha, is considered the founder of veterinary sciences. The kits evaluated included the Portex® PCK, Melker universal cricothyrotomy kit and H&H® emergency cricothyrotomy kit. A novel technique for awake cricothyrotomy in the dog is also described, which can also be considered for in-hospital use, together with the open surgical method described for the H&H® kit. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first publication documenting and providing instruction on the application of commercial cricothyrotomy kits in dogs. While Ivey and the dogs at Penn Vet Working Dog Center are working to detect ovarian cancer, dogs elsewhere are involved in research projects for other types of cancer. A study presented at a biochemistry conference last month, for example, showed that beagles could detect lung cancer through blood samples with 96% accuracy, according to Ashton.
Hi, my name is Lowell and I have always been interested in animals. I was born with a deep fascination for them that has only grown stronger as I’ve gotten older. This interest has led me to become a zookeeper. It’s the best job in the world because it allows me to work with animals every day and learn more about them.
