Taste Of The Wild Rocky Mountain Dry Cat Food

There’s a reason that Taste of the Wild shows up on so many of our best-of lists in the “best on a budget” spot. All recipes are focused on packing in as much protein as possible and while there are more plant-based proteins it’s part of keeping the price affordable. The two wet food options also do a great job of staying species-appropriate, again, especially at the price point. With just two types of wet food flavors and only seven total cat food products, Taste of the Wild scores low in terms of product variety.

I have had my 9 year old Persian on TOTW for as long as I can remember. I adopted her from the humane society and they were feeding her purina one cat food. She had stinky poops, constant hair balls from the loss of hair, horrible drainage from her eyes.

For cats with sensitive stomachs, there is the limited-ingredient Prey range, which has four primary ingredients with the vitamins and probiotics added to fortify your cat’s good health. Hill’s Science Diet is another option Dr. Singleton often recommends. It’s also the number one veterinarian-recommended dry cat food for its special formula of energy-support and digestible ingredients to fuel an indoor lifestyle.

Well, our cat started eating it , but then since has come to a complete halt. He’s about 13 years old and has always had a voracious appetite. As it is now, my cats will not eat the Taste of the Wild Wild Rocky Mountain Feline dry food. I would not recommend this food because it is a Diamond brand food. This company is highly known for huge amounts of pet food recalls.I do not trust anything they make. Too new to the market, bad product, bad effect, bad all the way around at the cost of 4 times the price of the worst cat food you could have purchased anywhere.

It does have a high water content (80%) for a premium food, but over all it is a good quality. I switched from store brand dry foods to TOTW in 2007. My vet of the time recommended a c/d formula for one of my cats but since they free feed that proved too costly. I’ve had male cats in the past who’ve had UTI’s or worse so naturally I was concerned. All of them love it, don’t over eat , and have been healthy in their digestive systems. I was feeding my cat Science Diet because that’s what the shelter had said she was used to eating, but she’s been throwing up about every other day since I got her.

I figured as long as I fed him something natural without by-products he’d be fine. I discovered Taste of the Wild, and I really liked it at first because of the great price and natural ingredients. However, I’m not sure it’s really doing my cat well. He never did when he was on other food, not even the cheap supermarket crap. Now I just adopted 2 young cats, and I started feeding them TOTW, and wouldn’t you know it?! I am quite disturbed by this, and I saw another person’s post, and they said the same thing happened.

The best premium option overall is Crave Indoor Adult Cat Food. It comes in various flavors, including chicken, chicken with salmon, salmon with ocean fish, turkey, chicken, and duck blend. Catering to the protein-rich diets cats need to thrive, the number one ingredient is meat.

Potatoes are 92 percent carbs, 7 percent protein, and 1 percent fat. They are a good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium and Manganese. Like sweet potatoes, potatoes are also a dietary fiber and can provide soluble fiber in the diet. This can help your cat feel full and slow down digestion and absorption of sugar. I received a complimentary sample of this cat food and was very surprised!

Reviewing Ingredients

I thought they may have been sick of the flavor, but I have three cats and I can’t imagine they all would decide they didn’t like it at the same time. I’m really bummed out, I love the cost and quality of the food, but my cats aren’t into what ever they must have changed. Hopefully its just a bad batch and we can go back to it later. My cat will not eat of that new batch and croquettes are lighter in color than the previous batch, something changed.

As this recall is over eight years old, you need not overly concern yourself as its effects have likely long past. However, this does not mean you should look out for any future recalls on Taste of the Wild products or any other brand. Learn more about the risks of Salmonella in pet food in this article by Banfield Pet Hospital. In September 2019, Taste of the Wild launched its first grain-inclusive range called Ancient Grains. This is likely a reaction to the fears surrounding Legumes, Potatoes, and other non-grain carbohydrate ingredients. I have a cat that has liver issues and is highly allergic to wool.

Their products are produced by Diamond Pet Foods Inc, which is owned by Schell & Kampeter Inc. Diamond Pet Foods Inc also produces other dog and cat food ranges such as NutraGold and Diamond Naturals. I will be starting a new position in a couple weeks and will not be able to feed them the wet food three times a day with my new schedule. I am looking for a dry food that is low carb and high protein so we can keep our current momentum.

My female Himalayan cat is soooo picky when it comes to food. She loves baked potato and sweet potato, so this food is the only brand of kibbles that she tolerates ever. Tried the most expensive one but she doesn’t like it. My male Himalayan fortunately is not as picky so he eats whatever she eats. They’ve been eating this for 4-6 years and never have any health issues, thankfully. They’re all of healthy weight, muscles and fats in all the right places.

(The oldest cat got UTIs years ago so vet had me switch then and fed both cats the same food.) This is the first UTI this cat has ever had. It’s heartbreaking to watch him strain and pee blood, as well as the complete and hopefully temporary personality change . So, on antibiotics and no more Taste of the Wild and trying to play with him to ease the trauma. I’d been feeding all my cats TOTW for the past 8 years!! And I just brought my cat home from the vet, with an infected bladder that had stones in it!

It’s developed with an optimal blend of animal protein and calories, which helps your pet achieve and maintain an ideal body mass. The round kibble contains a blend of specially-formed bites that are processed with less heat, which the manufacturer says helps preserve the nutritional value of the ingredients. In a similar fashion to the wet dog food offered by Taste of the Wild, the wet cat food recipes are closely linked to the dry food counterparts in ingredients and themes.

They thought it was because of the lower fiber content. I think I’m going to take them off this food and try something else. I think I’m going to try Core by Wellness and see how that goes.

Hi, my name is Lowell and I have always been interested in animals. I was born with a deep fascination for them that has only grown stronger as I've gotten older. This interest has led me to become a zookeeper. It's the best job in the world because it allows me to work with animals every day and learn more about them.
